Full-Spectrum CBD in Pet Sprays

by August 22, 2020

What is Full-Spectrum CBD?

In the ever-changing CBD market, it can be challenging to understand exactly what’s in our products. This notion applies to dietary supplements as well as CBD extracts themselves. To this end, the basic foundation for all Barksy sprays is “full-spectrum” CBD. To help our peers and customers better understand Barksy formulations, we thought it would be worthwhile to explore the idea of full-spectrum CBD in more detail.

Hemp and the 2018 Farm Billfull-spectrum CBD

The passage of the 2018 Farm Bill officially legalized hemp in the United States. This historic legislation gave rise to a legal national hemp industry – the Barksy team is honored to take part in this exciting new marketplace.

The Farm Bill did more than just legalize hemp. It also gave us many of the terms and definitions with which the industry operates today. To illustrate, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website tells us, the Farm Bill “removed hemp, defined as cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low concentrations of the psychoactive compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis), from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).”

The limits which the Farm Bill placed on THC are very important in understanding what defines legal hemp as well as full-spectrum CBD. According to the FDA, cannabis that contains more than 0.3 % THC is considered federally illegal. You can think of this higher THC cannabis the normal marijuana found at dispensaries today. Conversely, hemp produces less than 0.3% THC, making it legal in the eyes of the FDA.

Full-Spectrum CBD Extracts  full-spectrum CBD

Hemp-derived CBD products can be made from a few different plant extracts: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate. Concerning CBD for both people and pets, different businesses use these extracts to create specific CBD products. These CBD products are as varied as infused beverages, sleep aids, pain medications, bath products, and pet supplements.

Full-spectrum extracts include all of the beneficial chemicals found in the hemp plant, as well as trace amounts of THC (below 0.3% THC). Conversely, broad-spectrum extracts feature all the chemicals from the plant, minus any THC. Finally, CBD isolate is exactly what the name says – pure CBD isolated from other compounds in the hemp plant.

Barksy products are made strictly from full-spectrum extracts because they offer the most health benefits for your pets. This is due to a newly discovered phenomenon known as the “entourage effect.” full-spectrum CBD

The term entourage effect is used to describe the holistic effect of several chemical compounds in hemp, working in unison with one another. This effect includes the simultaneous influence of the “full-spectrum” of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other natural chemicals. Interestingly, according to the Project CBD website, it is believed that the entourage effect process “magnifies the therapeutic benefits of the plant’s individual components—so that the medicinal impact of the whole plant is greater than the sum of its parts.”

At Barksy, we formulated our pet sprays with the wholistic benefits of the entourage effect in mind. To this end, we ensure that our products include enough THC to propagate the entourage effect. Yet, we make sure we don’t go over the 0.3% limit mandated in the 2018 Farm Bill. Also, please note that this trace amount of THC has absolutely no psychoactive effects on animals or humans.

Summary

By carefully studying the legal climate of the hemp space, as well as working diligently on our formulations, we have made CBD sprays that maximize the beneficial chemicals of the hemp plant. In conjunction with supplements like chamomile and turmeric, Barksy sprays offer a plethora of health benefits for your beloved pet.

Barksy continually goes above and beyond market regulations for CBD products. Therefore, we only source the purest ingredients for our pet CBD sprays – this fact is reflected in our publically available Certificates of Analysis

Why is Turmeric in CBD Good for Your Pet?

by July 28, 2020

Turmeric in CBD Sprays

At Barksy, we love our pets. Therefore, we continuously “push the envelope” in developing new products that benefit our furry family members. As seen with our popular flaxseed oil and chamomile supplements, our R&D Team is constantly searching for new beneficial additives for our CBD products. Our latest project has led us to the creation of pet CBD sprays with the natural additive turmeric. This amazing new formula is available with our Joint Health 500mg CBD spray

Turmeric Plants, Spices & Medicines

Turmeric is sourced from the roots of the turmeric plant (curcuma longa), which is a very popular agricultural crop on the Asian continent.

According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the turmeric plant is a “perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family” whose “tuberous” roots are utilized in a number of products. The turmeric plant species originated near India, where it has long been cultivated as a spice, medicine, and dye.

When dried turmeric roots are ground into a powder, they present a distinct yellow color. This hue is best known as the yellow coloring in curry seasoning. Moreover, the bright yellow color for which turmeric is known makes for a powerful dye for clothing and textiles.

Turmeric has long since been recognized in ayurvedic medicine for a number of beneficial properties. To this end, the Medical News Today website tells us, “curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, and it has powerful biological properties.” People report a number of medical benefits with consuming turmeric, including anti-inflammation, pain relief, digestive aid, as well as anti-oxidant properties.

Turmeric in CBD for Pets

Because turmeric is so well-researched and widely available, it is an excellent candidate as a dietary supplement for our pets. Moreover, Barksy feels it compliments the benefits of CBD very well. The Barksy philosophy is to give our pets the very best supplements we can. This notion includes both cannabinoids and other dietary supplements. As seen with flaxseed oil, turmeric offers a variety of health benefits for our pets.

Pain Reliever

Dogs Naturally Magazine tells us that turmeric – in conjunction with its active ingredient curcumin – offers pain relief benefits for our animals. On top of reducing pain from such ailments as arthritis, studies show it may also offer a healthy alternative to mainstream pain medications. To this end, turmeric could prove to be a better pain remedy than drugs like ibuprofen because it does not irritate the digestive system.

Anti-Inflammatory

Perhaps the most well-documented health benefit of turmeric is the plant’s anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric supplements can help our pets by reducing the swelling that is caused by both injuries and disorders. Therefore, whether your dog has issues with arthritis or a sprained knee, turmeric offers a viable natural remedy.

Digestive Aid

Tumeric’s function as a digestive aid is tied largely to its history as an essential compound in ayurvedic medicine. As such, turmeric has been used in India for millennia to treat stomach issues like constipation and diarrhea. Currently, scientists are working to understand how turmeric can be used effectively as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The hope being, our pets can also benefit from this new research

Turmeric in CBD Conclusion

As Barksy continues to lead the pet CBD spray market, we will continue to diversify our product line with the best ingredients. For our pets as well as yours, turmeric is a great addition to CBD supplements.

While turmeric is considered very safe by doctors, we recommended that you only procure products from reputable sources such as Barsky.

Skin and Coat Care
